U.S. Congressional Delegation Visits Nigeria To Strengthen Security Cooperation

Malam Nuhu Ribadu, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, received a high-level United States Congressional delegation in Abuja on Sunday, signalling a renewed commitment to deepening bilateral security cooperation.

The visit follows previous discussions in Washington, D.C., aimed at addressing common security challenges and reinforcing strategic partnerships between Nigeria and the United States.

Ribadu took to his official X account on Saturday to provide details of the engagement, noting that discussions focused on counter-terrorism, regional stability, and bolstering Nigeria–U.S. collaboration on security matters.

The U.S. delegation comprised Representatives Mario Díaz-Balart, Norma Torres, Scott Franklin, Juan Ciscomani, and Riley Moore, accompanied by U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills.

Ribadu expressed optimism that the talks would enhance trust and cooperation, providing a stronger framework for joint efforts against terrorism and other security threats in the region.

“The engagement demonstrates the shared commitment of both nations to peace, stability, and strategic security collaboration,” he said, highlighting Nigeria’s determination to safeguard its citizens and contribute to regional security.

Officials emphasised that ongoing collaboration with the United States would support intelligence-sharing, training, and operational coordination, further strengthening Nigeria’s security apparatus.

The NSA reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to continue engaging with international partners to ensure peace and security, underscoring the value of such high-level diplomatic interactions.
