Turkmenistan Approves Gas Transit Through Iran To Turkey

Turkmenistan said it had reached an agreement to transport its natural gas through Iran to Turkey, Chairman of the People’s Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.

Berdimuhamedov said on Monday, during a phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, the Neutral Turkmenistan official government newspaper has reported,

“Chairman of Halk Maslahaty (People’s Council) had informed Pezeshkian about the agreement with Botas Turkish state oil and Gas Company on the transit of Turkmen natural gas.

“ Turkmen natural gas through Iran to the Republic of Turkey through swap (exchange),’’ the Neutral Turkmenistan said.

Berdimuhamedov also announced plans to construct a power transmission line from the Mary Hydroelectric Power Station to the Iranian border along the Mary-Mashhad route.

He had confirmed that all necessary negotiations had been completed, the corresponding document had been signed, and the project would be implemented by Iranian companies.

According to Myrat Archayev, the deputy chairman of the state-owned concern Turkmengaz in October 2024.

He said that Turkmenistan has planned to boost its natural gas supplies to Iran to as much as 40 billion cubic meters per year under agreements with both Iran and Turkey. (RIA/NAN)
