Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar says Nigeria’s engagement with blocs such as BRICS and the G20 is guided strictly by national interest rather than ideological alignment.
Speaking at the Doha Forum 2025, Tuggar stressed that with a population of over 230 million—predominantly young—Nigeria must expand employment opportunities, grow its middle class and draw long-term investment.
He said Nigeria is avoiding rigid East–West rivalries and instead pursuing balanced relations with all partners in today’s multipolar world. Tuggar also warned against importing external geopolitical tensions into Africa, emphasising the importance of regional stability and resisting proxy conflicts that could undermine development.
He added that Nigeria’s participation in global platforms reflects its long tradition of independent diplomacy and multilateral engagement, rooted in its historic contributions to Africa’s liberation and global development cooperation.
