U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Israel on Monday as part of a regional diplomatic mission following the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Trump, who played a central role in brokering the truce, met families of freed Israeli hostages and is scheduled to address lawmakers in the Knesset before travelling to Egypt for a peace summit in Sharm el-Sheikh.
He was received at Ben Gurion International Airport by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, shortly after seven hostages released by Hamas were transferred to Israeli forces via the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
Hamas announced earlier that all 20 living hostages remaining in Gaza would be released on Monday in exchange for the liberation of 1,900 Palestinian prisoners.
Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump told reporters the “war between Israel and Hamas is over,” signalling the start of a new phase focused on peacebuilding and reconstruction.
In Egypt, Trump will co-chair talks with President Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi, alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The summit aims to secure the ceasefire and outline a roadmap for long-term regional stability.
