Troops Repel Boko Haram, ISWAP Attack In Bitta, Borno

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled a coordinated attack by suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents on Bitta, a community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to the Nigerian Army, the attempted incursion occurred around 10:25 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, with insurgents advancing from the Damboa axis.

In a statement posted via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Army disclosed that the terrorists briefly breached the outer defensive perimeter but were swiftly repelled after a fierce firefight.

“Several terrorists were neutralised, and troops recovered AK-47 rifles and other arms and ammunition. No casualties were recorded among personnel,” the statement read.

Operational Reinforcement
On Sunday, July 27, the Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division, led senior military officers to Bitta for a post-attack assessment. The GOC immediately ordered the reorganisation and remobilisation of troops to bolster security and maintain heightened alertness in the area.

The Army added that while the situation in Bitta and its environs remains calm but unpredictable, troops’ morale and combat readiness remain high.

Operation HADIN KAI is the military’s ongoing counterterrorism and counterinsurgency mission in Nigeria’s North-East, targeting insurgent groups destabilising the region.
