Trabzonspor Close In On Paul Onuachu Transfer After Successful Loan Spell

Turkish giants Trabzonspor are closing in on a permanent deal for Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu, following a productive loan spell in which he netted 15 goals in 21 matches during the 2024/25 season.

Sources familiar with the matter suggest the two clubs are nearing an agreement, with Trabzonspor offering €5 million to sign the striker from Southampton, who had purchased him for €18 million just 18 months ago from Belgian side Genk.

Confirming the talks, club president Ertugal Dogan said: “Paul Onuachu remains on our radar. Negotiations are progressing and we are optimistic that a deal will be finalised soon.”

Onuachu’s performance in Turkey stood in sharp contrast to his underwhelming time in England. Despite joining the Saints amid high expectations, he struggled to adapt to English football, managing only four goals and one assist in 25 appearances, before being loaned out.

With Southampton now back in the Championship and rebuilding, Onuachu’s return to Trabzonspor could offer a fresh chapter for the Nigerian striker and provide the Turkish club with a proven goalscorer for their 2025/26 campaign.
