Tinubu Welcomes Release Of 24 Kebbi Schoolgirls, Calls For Rescue Of Remaining Victims

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday welcomed the release of the 24 schoolgirls abducted by terrorists in Maga, Kebbi State, last Monday.

The gunmen attacked the school at dawn on November 17, kidnapping the students shortly after a military detachment had left the premises. The incident triggered similar kidnappings in Eruku, Kwara State, and Papiri, Niger State.

All 38 victims abducted in Eruku were freed on Sunday. On the same day, the Niger State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) disclosed that 50 students earlier reported missing from a Catholic school in the state had been traced to their parents’ homes.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended security agencies for their efforts in securing the release of abducted victims. He urged them to intensify operations to rescue students still held by kidnappers.

“I am relieved that all the 24 girls have been accounted for. Now, we must, as a matter of urgency, put more boots on the ground in vulnerable areas to avert further incidents of kidnapping. My government will offer all the assistance needed to achieve this,” Tinubu said.
