Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has pledged to fast-track the completion of the permanent site of the National Defence College (NDC), positioning it as a future Defence Postgraduate University for the country and its international partners.
Speaking through Vice-President Kashim Shettima at the graduation of 99 officers from NDC Course 33 in Abuja, Tinubu described the institution as a cornerstone for building strategic leadership and enhancing national security. Graduates included personnel from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, government ministries, and participants from 19 foreign nations.
Tinubu acknowledged gaps in infrastructure at the new Piwoyi campus and directed the college command to work with the Ministry of Defence on an upgrade plan. “Much remains to be done, but I assure you that this administration is committed to completing the permanent site,” he said.
The president praised the graduates for enduring 48 weeks of rigorous training, stressing that their recommendations—particularly on boosting local defence manufacturing—would be studied and integrated into national policy.
He also called on international participants to deepen bonds forged during the course, saying such ties could serve as “bridges of cooperation and solidarity” between Nigeria and their countries.
