Tinubu To Visit Japan, Brazil For Diplomatic, Investment Engagements

President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Thursday, August 14, for a two-nation trip to Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said Tinubu will attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan, from August 20 to 22. Themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” the forum will focus on Africa’s economic transformation, private investment, innovation, and building a resilient, sustainable society.

While in Japan, the President will join plenary sessions, hold bilateral talks, and meet with CEOs of Japanese firms with investments in Nigeria.

Initiated in 1993 by Japan and co-hosted by the UN, UNDP, African Union Commission, and World Bank, TICAD is a triennial conference held alternately in Japan and Africa. The last edition took place in Tunisia in 2022.

After TICAD9, Tinubu will visit Brasilia, Brazil, from August 24 to 25 at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He will hold bilateral talks, participate in a business forum with Brazilian investors, and witness the signing of cooperation agreements and MoUs between both nations.
