Tinubu To Engage Benue Stakeholders In Push For Peace Amid Spiralling Crisis

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu will travel to Benue State on Tuesday, 18 June, as part of his administration’s intensified push to resolve long-standing communal violence that continues to cost lives and displace families.

The trip, announced by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga on Monday, aims to provide the President with direct insight into the scale of the crisis and facilitate dialogue with local actors.

“President Tinubu’s visit is focused on charting a path to peace,” Onanuga stated. “He will consult widely with key stakeholders—traditional authorities, politicians, religious leaders, community figures, and youth groups—seeking inclusive and sustainable solutions to the conflict.”

In a proactive move, the President had earlier sent a delegation including the Secretary to the Government, the Inspector General of Police, top security officials, and leaders of defence committees in both the Senate and House of Representatives to Benue to prepare the ground for his visit.

During his stay, Tinubu will preside over a town hall meeting, gathering voices from across Benue’s diverse communities to listen to grievances, proposals, and testimonies on the impact of the unrest.

The President has consistently condemned the violence in the state, calling for mutual tolerance and unity, and has extended his sympathies to those who have lost loved ones or livelihoods.

As a result of the upcoming Benue trip, Tinubu’s scheduled project commissioning in Kaduna State has been postponed to 19 June, the statement confirmed.
