Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval for N1.7 Trillion FCT Budget

President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate’s approval for a statutory budget of N1.784 trillion designated for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for the year 2025.

This request was communicated through a letter presented to the Senate by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday.

In the letter, Tinubu stated, “In accordance with Section 299 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, which grants legislative authority over the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Abuja, to the National Assembly, I hereby submit the 2025 FCT budget proposal for your consideration.”

The proposed budget emphasizes key areas such as healthcare services, job creation, youth empowerment, social welfare, educational infrastructure, and agricultural productivity.

“Our goal is to alleviate poverty among our citizens to the greatest extent possible,” he added.

The proposal outlines a total expenditure of N1,783,823,708,392 for 2025, based on revenue projections for the FCT. Notably, 85% of this capital expenditure is earmarked for completing ongoing projects, while the remaining 15% will fund new initiatives aimed at enhancing basic infrastructure and social amenities within the FCT.

“I am forwarding the 2025 FCT statutory proposals and trust that they will receive prompt consideration and approval from the Senate.”

Additionally, the proposal has been sent to the House of Representatives for further deliberation.
