President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former First Lady, Chief Margaret Shonekan, on her 84th birthday, describing her as a symbol of humility, integrity and distinguished public service.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga.
President Tinubu praised Mrs Shonekan, widow of the late Head of the Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, for her enduring legacy of kindness, patriotism and commitment to national development.
He said Mrs Shonekan devoted her life to strengthening public institutions, advancing education, promoting academic excellence and fostering effective service delivery and human resource development.
Mrs Shonekan began her career at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in 1965 as a Trainee Assistant Registrar, rose to the position of Deputy Registrar, and later served as a Federal Civil Service Commissioner from 1986 to 1994.
She returned to WAEC in 1994 after her brief service as Nigeria’s First Lady for three months and subsequently became Head of WAEC Nigeria from 1995 to 2000.
President Tinubu commended her unwavering dedication to education and national service and prayed for her continued good health and sound mind.
