President Bola Tinubu will in October officially launch Nigeria’s revised National Counter-Terrorism Strategy following months of consultations aimed at aligning the country’s security framework with modern challenges.
Speaking at a quarterly meeting of stakeholders in Abuja, Maj.-Gen. Adamu Laka, National Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC), confirmed that the updated strategy had been completed and submitted to National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu for final approval.
The review process, which began in February 2025, involved ministries, security agencies, civil society groups, the private sector, religious and traditional leaders, and international partners. It was guided by the “Whole of Government” and “Whole of Society” approaches championed by the president, according to NCTC officials.
Commodore Ahmad Madawaki, NCTC’s Director of Policy and Strategy, said the inclusive process ensured the framework met global standards and would be community-driven. “Hopefully, the next invitation you will get from us is the formal launch of the revised strategy sometime in October by Mr President,” he told participants.
The new framework, officials said, will provide a roadmap for Nigeria’s domestic security as well as reinforce its regional role in combating terrorism and violent extremism in West Africa and the Sahel.
