President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the suicide bombing that struck Konduga in north-eastern Borno State, describing the attack as a “cowardly and desperate act” by terrorist elements targeting soft civilian locations.
The condemnation came in an official statement issued on Sunday by the President’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed, and to the government and citizens of Borno State. He instructed national security forces to intensify operations aimed at eliminating the remnants of Boko Haram, who are believed to be behind the attack.
“The perpetrators of such acts must be relentlessly pursued and held accountable. Our resolve to rid Nigeria of terrorism remains firm,” the statement read.
The President also called on the National Emergency Management Agency to extend necessary relief and medical support to the injured and affected communities.
Separately, Tinubu expressed sorrow over an explosion that occurred at a scrap yard in Kano State on Saturday, which left five people dead and injured ten others.
He emphasised the critical importance of occupational safety standards, urging government agencies to launch a full investigation into the incident and put in place stricter regulations to safeguard workers in high-risk environments.
“These tragedies serve as a stark reminder of the work ahead in securing both lives and livelihoods across the country,” the President added.
