Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has ordered the reinstatement of two senior executives at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), reversing management changes announced just days earlier.
In a statement released on Tuesday, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said Tinubu had directed the recall of Salihu Dembos as director-general and Ayo Adewuyi as executive director of news. Both will now complete their respective three-year tenures, with Adewuyi’s set to end in 2027.
The directive nullifies earlier appointments of a new NTA director-general, executive directors for news and marketing, and a managing director for NTA Enterprises. Among those affected is Rotimi Pedro, who had been named as NTA’s incoming director-general in a statement by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Dembos, who has led NTA since October 2023, and Adewuyi, appointed in 2024, will now continue in their roles as the state broadcaster undergoes broader reforms.
The presidency offered no explanation for the policy reversal but signalled that the officials would be allowed to serve out their full mandates.
