The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s Abia State has openly rebuked Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, saying his recent meeting with Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party was a personal engagement and not endorsed by the party.
In a statement issued in Umuahia, acting APC publicity secretary Sterling Urakpa voiced the party’s displeasure over Kalu’s apparent commendation of the state government. “His comments contradict the official position of the APC, which continues to hold the Labour Party-led administration accountable for failures in governance,” Urakpa said.
The party reiterated its criticism of Governor Otti’s leadership, accusing it of a lack of openness in public spending and poor management of contracts. Urakpa warned APC members not to engage in public gestures that might suggest support for opposition figures, especially as preparations begin for the 2027 elections.
He also referenced concerns from the party’s 2023 electoral experience, where some members were accused of undermining APC interests for personal gain. “We will not tolerate a repeat of those actions,” he stressed.
The statement urged local party leaders in Bende and Abia North—Kalu’s political strongholds—to remain alert and work to ensure party unity.
Despite the controversy, the APC affirmed its commitment to winning the state in the next elections and aligning Abia more closely with the federal administration led by President Tinubu.
