The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) has arrested 71 suspects who specialise in robbing Lagos Island residents of their valuables.
The Commissioner for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a post shared on his official X handle @tokunbo_wahab on Tuesday.
He said that the suspects were apprehended during a clean-up operation aimed at ridding Lagos Island of criminal elements.
“The agency set out at 12:30 a.m., on Tuesday, and embarked on its clean up enforcement operation on the Island.
“The areas visited during the operation include Victoria Island, Oniru, Ikoyi, Apongbon, Law School etc where the presence of some undesirable elements was noticed.
“This was consequent upon the agency feedback mechanism that suggest that some of these streets are populated by suspected criminals attacking, assaulting and denying innocent residents of their hard earned valuables and belongings ” he said.
Wahab said that sanity had been restored in all the areas, adding that all the suspects would be charged to court accordingly. (NAN)
