A petrol-laden tanker on Tuesday afternoon skidded off the road, overturned, and exploded along the Bida-Agaie Road in Niger State.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Niger State, Hajiya Aishatu Sa’adu, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna.
Sa’adu said the number of casualties had not yet been determined at the time of filing the report. However, she noted that FRSC personnel were already on the scene carrying out rescue operations.
She explained that the explosion led to a major traffic gridlock along the busy highway, worsened by the poor condition of the road.
According to her, the deplorable state of the road also hampered the speed of emergency response efforts.
