Sweden Announces Name Of Newborn Princess

The daughter of the Swedish royal couple Sofia and Prince Carl Philip, who was born on Friday, has been named as Ines Marie Lilian Silvia.

The Court announced on Monday that the princess would be known by her first name, Ines, and will have the title Duchess of Västerbotten.

The little princess has three big brothers: Princes Alexander, 8, Gabriel, 7 and Julian, 3.

She is the ninth grandchild of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.

Like her brothers, and some of her cousins, Ines is part of the royal family but not part of the Swedish royal house. She will therefore not be addressed as Her Royal Highness.

In 2019, Carl Gustaf ruled that of his grandchildren, only the children of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel would one day hold the highest-level of royalty.

Princess Estelle,12 and Prince Oscar, 8, were second and third in line to the Swedish throne, directly after their mother Victoria. (dpa/NAN)
