SWAN Lauds Benue Athletes Performance At 2025 NSF

The Benue Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has commended the performance of athletes that represented the state at the just concluded 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF), tagged “Gateway Games”, held in Abeokuta, Ogun.
The SWAN Chairman, Hembadoon Orsar, gave the commendation on Tuesday in a statement signed by the Secretary, Terfa Alaghga in Makurdi.
Orsar lauded the commitment, dedication and resilience of the athletes and their trainers but called for early preparations ahead of the next edition.
The chairman stated that Benue representatives had proven to be true ambassadors following their exploits at the festival.
“In spite of the inadequate training facilities and lack of invitation to a closed camp, you achieved these results by occupying 29th position on the medals table with a total of 18 medals, 6 silver and 12 bronze medals.
“We commend you for achieving these results and encourage you to continue to do your best by contributing your quota to the development of sports in Benue.
“We thank Gov. Hyacinth Alia for sponsoring the state contingents to the NSF. This is an indication that youth and sports development are dear to his heart and key to his administration.
“We are also full of praise for the Commissioner of Youth, Sports and Creativity, Terkimbi Ikyange, for articulately steering the ship of the sports sector effectively for optimum productivity and for his SWAN friendly disposition,” she added.
Orsar commended the Director of Sports, Benue State Sports Council and Anthony Torbunde, for effectively coordinating Team Benue to Abeokuta and ensuring that they all had a sense of belonging.
The chairman called on the athletes and coaches not to relent in their efforts but to continue to train hard towards improving themselves.
According to her, SWAN is optimistic that adequate preparations will be made, and with early commencement of training ahead of the 2026 edition of the NSF in Enugu. (NAN)
