Supreme Court Confirms Ondo Governor’s Mandate, APC Calls For Unity

The Supreme Court has upheld the victory of Ondo State governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in the 2024 governorship election, rejecting appeals from opposition parties that challenged the result.

Aiyedatiwa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, was declared winner of the 16 November poll after polling 366,781 votes against his main rival, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party, who garnered 117,845. The governor swept all 18 local government areas of the state.

Following the ruling, the APC’s state leadership welcomed the judgment as the “final endorsement of the people’s choice.” State chairman, Ade Adetimehin, congratulated Aiyedatiwa, his deputy Olayide Adelami, and citizens of Ondo, urging them to rally behind the administration as it pursues reforms to strengthen the local economy.

The statement, released by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Alex Kalejaye, also lauded the judiciary, electoral body and security agencies for ensuring due process.

With the legal dispute now settled, the APC has appealed to rival parties — the PDP, Social Democratic Party and Allied Peoples Movement — to set aside their grievances and work with the governor for the state’s progress.
