Super Eagles Camp Buzzes As Nigeria Eyes Crucial World Cup Qualifiers

The Super Eagles’ training camp in Uyo has come to life with 13 players reporting ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda on Saturday.

Early arrivals included team captain William Troost-Ekong, Amas Obasogie, Felix Agu, and Raphael Onyedika. They were later joined by forward Moses Simon, who impressed at the weekend with a goal and an assist for Paris FC. Midfielders Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, and Alex Iwobi, defenders Calvin Bassey, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Chidozie Awaziem, and Benjamin Fredericks, as well as goalkeeper Adebayo Adeleye, have also checked in. More key players, including Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Samuel Chukwueze, were expected late on Tuesday.

Speaking at the Nigeria Professional Football League Awards in Abuja, NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi voiced confidence in the squad’s readiness. “I have no fears whatsoever. The team is fully prepared, and I believe God will support us to win both matches,” he said.

Sanusi noted that Nigeria’s strong showing in the European summer transfer market has sent a warning signal to opponents Rwanda and South Africa, suggesting their squads are wary of the Super Eagles’ depth and quality.

Nigeria currently occupy fourth place in Group C with seven points, trailing South Africa by six. To qualify for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, the Super Eagles must win all four remaining matches while depending on other favourable results.

The clash with Rwanda is set for the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on 6 September, before the team faces South Africa in Bloemfontein on 9 September.
