Subsidy Removal Has Freed Resources For development — Minister

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, says the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu’s administration has freed up resources for national development.

Idris stated this in Minna on Wednesday during the Tinubu Administration Mid-Term Sensitisation Campaign. He was represented by Dr Asabe Sule-Garba, Head of the Federal Information Resource Centre, Minna.

According to him, the subsidy removal has allowed government to redirect funds into critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, job creation and social services.

“These reforms, anchored on the Renewed Hope Agenda, are tough but necessary decisions to build a fair, stable and prosperous Nigeria,” he said.

He added that the campaign was designed to sensitise citizens on government programmes, stressing that people could only hold leaders accountable if they stayed informed.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr Eyitayo Aluko, Federal Controller of Works in Niger, highlighted road projects in the state, including Minna–Zungeru–Tegina, Tegina–Kontagora, and the dualisation of the Ilorin–Jebba–Mokwa road.

Also, Malam Suleiman Ladan, State Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, said irrigation facilities, market structures and research projects had been executed to boost productivity and create jobs.

He disclosed that 6,000 bags of rice were distributed in Niger State, with 1,200 bags allocated to federal civil servants and 4,800 to state workers and the private sector.

Participants at the sensitisation campaign included market women, artisans, NGOs and persons with disabilities.
