Steel Development Minister, Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, has confirmed that the federal government is nearing a pivotal stage in its initiative to revive the Ajaokuta steel company in Kogi State.
This announcement was made during a weekend meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders at his home in Ogbonicha. Audu revealed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been established with the plant’s Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to support its revival.
He also noted that efforts are underway to attract private investors from China for the steel plant, marking a significant milestone towards its restoration.
“We are undertaking substantial efforts. The journey has commenced, and we expect to achieve results for Ajaokuta promptly,” Audu declared.
He underscored that this initiative demonstrates the bold reforms and developmental progress made by President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the past two years, aimed at enhancing the economy through steel development.
The minister highlighted the President’s resolve to tackle Nigeria’s pressing issues, improve citizens’ welfare, and ensure the fruits of democracy reach all corners of the nation.
He cited the tangible impact of the “Renewed Hope” agenda, including a recent decline in staple food prices.
“In a mere two years, Mr. President has exhibited robust political will and a commitment to transforming Nigeria. State FAAC allocations have surged, directly benefiting Kogi State,” Audu noted.
Mr. Joshua Onoja, the State Secretary of the APC, praised the Minister’s initiative and reaffirmed the party’s full backing for President Tinubu’s re-election, assuring unity within the Kogi APC.
The meeting attracted a wide array of party officials, including Executive Chairmen, local leaders, Councilors from Kogi East, and a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters.
