The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has released Lamine Yamal from the national team squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Turkey following an unnotified groin treatment.
According to the RFEF, the Barcelona winger, who has missed five matches for his club due to the injury, underwent a radiofrequency procedure on Monday.
“This procedure was performed without prior notification to the national team’s medical staff,” the RFEF said in a statement.
“The medical staff only learned of the details through a report received at 10:40 p.m. last night, which recommended rest for 7–10 days.”
The federation said it decided to release the player “to prioritise his health, safety, and well-being.”
Yamal, capped 23 times for Spain, has scored six goals and provided six assists in 11 matches for Barcelona this season.
Spain currently lead Group E with 12 points from four matches, scoring 15 goals without conceding. They face Georgia on Saturday in Tbilisi and Turkey on Tuesday in Seville.
