Southern Kaduna Journalists Hail Tinubu For Appointing General Musa As Defence Minister

The Southern Kaduna Journalists’ Forum (SKJF) has applauded President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of retired General Christopher Musa as Minister of Defence, describing the move as both “well-deserved” and reassuring for the nation.

At a press briefing jointly addressed by Chairman Ango Bally and Secretary Lilian Silas, the forum said Musa’s rise to the top of the defence ministry was a natural progression for a man whose military career had been marked by strategic insight and steadfast loyalty to Nigeria’s unity.

According to SKJF, Musa’s tenure as Chief of Defence Staff earned him respect at home and abroad, making him a strong and credible figure to oversee the country’s defence sector at a time of heightened security challenges.

The group also praised the Senate for the speed and professionalism of the confirmation process, noting that Musa’s bipartisan support reflected broad confidence in his character and abilities.

Turning to Kaduna State, the journalists commended Governor Uba Sani for his role in championing development in Southern Kaduna and for supporting Musa’s nomination. They cited projects such as the University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, the Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan and recently completed infrastructure as proof of the governor’s commitment to inclusivity.

The forum said Sani’s backing for Musa exemplified a “bridge-building leadership style,” contrasting it with what they called the “exclusionary tendencies” of the previous administration.

SKJF recalled that after the Senate rejected an earlier nominee in 2023, it had appealed to the president to allocate the ministerial slot to Southern Kaduna. Tinubu’s decision, it said, restored fairness and contributed to strengthening national cohesion.

Describing Musa’s appointment as a “moment of pride” for the region, the forum expressed confidence that he would approach the role with competence, courage and integrity, helping to confront the nation’s pressing security challenges.

Reaffirming its commitment to responsible journalism and national progress, the SKJF offered prayers for divine guidance for the new minister as he begins his service.
