The Sharia Court of Appeal in Abuja has pushed back to 28 October a hearing in the custody battle between businessman Alhaji Ibrahim Ado and his former wife, Hajiya Adama Indimi.
The adjournment came after Ado’s counsel told the three-member panel, chaired by Grand Khadi Ibrahim Immam, that he had only been served a counter-affidavit on the morning of the sitting and required time to respond.
Indimi and Ado divorced in August this year after four years of marriage and share a toddler. While Ado accepted that custody should remain with the mother, disputes over financial maintenance continue. Indimi is seeking monthly support to cover feeding, clothing, nanny fees, and schooling, as well as assistance with the child’s official documents.
The case escalated after the Upper Area Court in Kado ordered Ado to appear personally and submit his bank statements, prompting him to appeal on grounds of alleged judicial bias.
Proceedings remain active in both the appeal court and the lower court, with hearings now scheduled for 27 and 28 October.
