Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan Resumes Plenary

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan resumed her legislative duties on Tuesday after serving a six-month suspension from Nigeria’s upper chamber.

The Kogi Central lawmaker walked into the Senate as President Godswill Akpabio was delivering his opening remarks. Several colleagues, among them Abdul Ningi of Bauchi, Ali Ndume of Borno and Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, welcomed her back with pleasantries.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March following a confrontation with Senate leadership over the reassignment of her seat, a decision she openly protested.

Addressing reporters after her return, the senator insisted she had no regrets and owed no apology for her conduct.

Her reinstatement restores Kogi Central’s voice in plenary sessions, ending a six-month period in which her constituents were without active representation in the Senate.
