The Senate on Wednesday at plenary paid glowing tribute to late Sen. Jeremiah Useni, who died on January 23 at the age of 82, following a prolonged illness.
Useni was born on Feb 16, 1943 in Langtang, Plateau state.
Useni came to national limelight in Nigeria when he was appointed Military Governor of Nigeria’s defunct Bendel State in January 1984. In 1998, Useni became Minister for the Capital Territory of Abuja.
He represented Plateau South in the 8th senate under the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that before commencement of the valedictory session, the relatives of the late senator were present at the session.
Tribute in honor of, Useni, followed a motion by Senate Majority Leader, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele (APC-Ekiti) that the Senate do pay tributes to late Useni.
The motion was seconded by Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Abba Moro (PDP-Benue).
Thereafter, many Senators took turns to pay tributes to the late lawmaker.
Senate, thereafter, observed a minute silence in honor of Useni.
It resolved to send a delegation to condole his family, the government and people of Plateau state.
It also urged the Federal Government to immortalise the late lawmaker by renaming the Kado Housing Estate after him.(NAN)
