Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has paid tribute to the late Senator Okey Ezea, who died on Tuesday in Lagos.
Ezea, a legal practitioner and businessman, was born on 11 August 1963 and won election to represent Enugu North Senatorial District in 2023 under the Labour Party. In a condolence statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Barau described him as a committed nationalist who worked to advance unity and progress in Nigeria.
Until his death, Ezea was Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa and NEPAD, as well as the Senate Committee on Culture and Creative Economy. Barau said his contributions in and outside the Senate showed clear commitment to national development.
He called the senator’s death “a shock”, adding that his legacy of service would continue to speak for him.
“Our prayers are with his wife, Chioma, his children, and the people of Enugu North and Enugu State,” Barau said. “He was a patriotic Nigerian who sought to improve the standard of living of his people. We pray God grants his family the fortitude to bear this loss.”
