Sanwo-Olu Reaffirms Loyalty To President Tinubu, Rejects Rumours Of Political Tension

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has publicly rejected rumours of a rift between himself and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, describing the claims as speculative and politically motivated.

Speaking following a high-level meeting at President Tinubu’s Lagos residence on Sunday, Sanwo-Olu emphasised that his relationship with the President remains strong and grounded in mutual respect. “He is my father and my leader. There’s absolutely no conflict,” he said.

The meeting, attended by influential members of the Lagos State Governors Advisory Council (GAC), formed part of an annual Sallah tradition where party leaders visit senior political figures to offer goodwill and prayers.

Reports in recent months had hinted at tensions between the two, suggesting Sanwo-Olu was attempting to distance himself from Tinubu’s political base. However, Sunday’s gathering appeared intended to counter such narratives and project unity within the APC’s Lagos chapter.

The governor credited Tinubu for infrastructure advancements and recent economic interventions, particularly targeting rising living costs. He also spoke against planned Democracy Day protests, arguing that the country’s economy is beginning to show signs of recovery.

“There is no basis for protest. Progress takes time, and we are starting to see it,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The visible presence of top APC officials and the Deputy Governor underscored the administration’s effort to present a cohesive leadership amid growing public scrutiny and internal political manoeuvring.
