Sanwo-Olu Inaugurates 13th LASU Governing Council, Calls For Visionary Leadership

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday inaugurated the 13th Governing Council of Lagos State University (LASU), urging members to provide visionary leadership to enhance the institution’s global standing.

The new council is chaired by Mr. Babatunde Ogala (SAN) and includes members Mr. Oluseyi Badmus, Mr. Bode Makanjuola, Mrs. Mojisola Tolagbe Taiwo, Mr. Shaffudeen Amuwo, Rafiu Adisa Ebiti, Mrs. Kofo Durosimi-Etti, Mr. Farouk Gumel, Mrs. Adenike Akanbi, Mr. Biodun Hundeyin, and Dr. Remi Desalu.

Speaking at Lagos House, Ikeja, Sanwo-Olu described the inauguration as “an important moment in the continuing journey of one of Nigeria’s most respected institutions of learning.” He commended the outgoing council, led by Sir David A.O. Sumoni, for laying a solid foundation through meritorious service and visionary stewardship.

The governor urged the new council to prioritise stability, academic excellence, transparency, and accountability, while promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and strong ties with the host community. He stressed the importance of defining a long-term vision to sustain LASU amid global competitiveness and rapid educational transformation.

Sanwo-Olu also lauded Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello and her management team for maintaining high academic standards, calling on the council to foster inclusivity, partnerships, and development-oriented programmes.

He assured the council of the state government’s continued support, urging members to lead with clarity and confidence, noting that every decision they make will shape future generations.

Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule, emphasised maintaining LASU’s reputation, while Ogala, on behalf of the council, pledged to ensure the university remains the most sought-after institution in the country.
