Four people were confirmed dead and eight others injured on Tuesday following a multiple-vehicle collision on the Benin–Sagamu Road in Edo State, Nigeria.
According to Cyril Mathew, Edo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the incident occurred at the Ovia Bridge when a truck from Lagos lost control and crashed into five vehicles.
Nineteen individuals were caught up in the crash, including 14 men, four women and a young boy. Three people died instantly, while a fourth victim passed away later in hospital.
Mathew attributed the accident to speeding and loss of concentration, noting that poor driving practices continue to endanger lives on Nigerian roads.
He urged drivers to adhere to speed regulations and remain vigilant, particularly on high-risk highways.
