Revised Crriculum: Stakeholders Laud FG, Seek Proper Implementation

Nigerians have broadly welcomed the Federal Government’s decision to overhaul the basic, senior secondary, and technical education curriculum, but stakeholders are pressing for swift and proper implementation to ensure its impact.

The new curriculum seeks to reduce content overload, enhance learning outcomes, and prepare students with globally relevant skills in technology, creativity, and entrepreneurship.

Adeolu Ogunbanjo, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Parent Teacher Association of Nigeria, described the reform as “laudable and timely.” He urged the ministries of education to enforce full compliance, stressing that subjects on digital technology and entrepreneurship must be supported with adequate infrastructure.

Similarly, educationist Tunde Bejide, a former vice-president of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Lagos Chapter, hailed the inclusion of coding, robotics, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and vocational skills. He argued that such competencies would enable Nigerian learners to compete internationally while fostering innovation and self-reliance.

Bejide also commended the emphasis on Nigerian history and civic studies, saying they would help preserve cultural identity and promote responsibility. However, he cautioned that the late release of the revised curriculum left schools with insufficient preparation time.
