Resident Doctors Applaud Wike Over Payment Of Outstanding Hazard Allowances

Resident doctors in the Federal Capital Territory have lauded FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for settling their 13 months’ outstanding hazard allowance and approving a one-month wage award.

The commendation was conveyed in a statement released on Tuesday by the minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Mr Lere Olayinka.

Olayinka said the Association of Resident Doctors, FCT (ARD-FCTA), expressed its appreciation in a formal letter dated 15 January, describing the payments as a timely intervention that highlights the minister’s commitment to fairness and workers’ welfare.

The letter, jointly signed by the association’s President, Dr George Ebong, and its General Secretary, Dr Yusuf Lissa, praised Wike for prioritising the wellbeing of health workers in the territory. The doctors described his approach as a demonstration of responsible and people-focused leadership.

They also noted that the payments acknowledged the risks and sacrifices associated with medical practice, particularly for doctors and other frontline health workers serving in the FCT.

Reaffirming their commitment to the health sector, the association said it would continue to work closely with the FCT Administration to promote improved healthcare delivery and strengthen the territory’s health system for the benefit of residents.
