The House of Representatives’ Committee on Air Force has pledged to priotise budgetary allocation for personnel welfare and replacement of aging operational platforms to boost morale of Nigerian Air Force in the fight against insecurity.
Chairman of the committee, Rep. Kabiru Rurum (NNPP-Kano), made the pledge in a statement issued on Sunday at the conclusion of 2025 oversight of Air Force bases in the country.
Rurum said that the committee observed under-funding of critical operations and infrastructure as well as delay in capital releases.
He said that welfare conditions, such as inadequate accommodation for personnel, delayed payment of allowances as well as aging and over-stretched operational platforms were also observed.
“We are deeply concerned about these issues, especially as they directly affect morale, operational readiness and the overall effectiveness of the Nigerian Air Force.
“The armed forces remain the backbone of our national security architecture, and the air force is particularly pivotal in our counter-terrorism efforts, internal security operations and safeguarding the sovereignty of our airspace.
“As members of the 10th House of Representatives, we are guided by the principles of accountability, transparency and service to the Nigerian people.
“Let me assure you that the committee will not treat these observations lightly,” he said.
The chairman reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s air defence capabilities through robust and sustained legislative support.
He stated that committee’s oversight, which covered bases in Kaduna, Kano, Maiduguri and Mardi, was aimed at promoting transparency, accountability and improved operational efficiency within the air force.
According to him, the oversight exercise focused on assessing the state of infrastructure, personnel welfare, budget implementation and operational readiness of NAF units stationed in these key strategic locations.
Rurrum commended the leadership and all officers of the force for their tireless service and contributions to the defence and stability of the country.
He applauded their professionalism, courage and sacrifice for the country, pledging that those attributes would not go unnoticed by citizens. (NAN)
