Redeemer’s University Marks 20th Anniversary With Over 1,300 Graduates

Redeemer’s University in Ede, south-west Nigeria, will this week celebrate a double milestone: its 17th convocation and 20 years since its founding. The institution will graduate 1,341 students, including 185 who achieved first-class honours.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shadrach Akindele, addressing journalists on Monday, described the graduating cohort as “The Indomitable Set”. He noted that the best graduating student, Joel Durigbo from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, finished with a perfect 5.0 CGPA.

Alongside undergraduate awards, 338 postgraduate degrees and diplomas will be conferred, including 19 PhDs. Honorary degrees will go to Omolewa Ahmed, Mike Bamiloye of Mount Zion Faith Ministries, and Sahara Group executive Kola Adeshina.

Akindele pointed to Redeemer’s University’s growing reputation, saying it had been chosen by Nigeria’s Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) as one of only eight private universities to train sponsored postgraduate candidates. It also recently debuted in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, placing second in Nigeria and topping several Sustainable Development Goal categories.

“Indeed, this is a season of double honour, and we return all glory to God,” he said, underscoring the religious ethos of the institution, which is owned by the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

The convocation ceremonies will be held on 9 and 10 October at the university campus in Ede.
