Red Cross, UNICEF Aid 7,300 Households In Zamfara

The Nigeria Red Cross, in collaboration with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), has assisted 7,300 women-led households in Gusau, Shinkafi, and Tsafe Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.
Speaking during a distribution event in Gusau on Monday, Secretary General of the Nigeria Red Cross, Abubakar Kyande, said the intervention aimed to relieve vulnerable communities facing challenges in education, health, and food security.

He stated that each beneficiary received between N28,000 and N114,000, depending on the size and needs of their household.

Kyande explained that the initiative specifically targeted the most vulnerable groups, including women-led households, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable children.

“We worked closely with community and religious leaders, as well as local government authorities, to select the beneficiaries,” he said.

Expressing concern over the hardships caused by insecurity and other socioeconomic challenges in Zamfara, Kyande appealed to government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and philanthropists to collaborate in supporting vulnerable families across the state.

“For now, we are reaching only three area councils, but we are extending a hand of friendship to all stakeholders to assist vulnerable children,” he added.(NAN)
