Rainoil Ltd. has strengthened its distribution network with the arrival of MT Princess Oge, a 45,000-metric-tonne oil products tanker, in Nigerian waters for the first time.
The vessel, built in Japan, successfully delivered 20,000MT of petrol at the company’s Ijegun depot in Lagos on Wednesday. With a deadweight tonnage of nearly 46,000MT, it is expected to significantly boost Rainoil’s ability to deliver fuel nationwide.
Group Managing Director, Dr Gabriel Ogbechie, described the acquisition as a strategic step in building Nigeria’s energy infrastructure. “It is more than an expansion of our logistics capacity; it is an investment in the future of Nigeria’s downstream sector and in energy security,” he said.
He emphasised that the private sector had a central role to play in ensuring consistent supply of petroleum products and reducing reliance on foreign-owned infrastructure.
Ese Erokoro, Group Head of Retail Sales, said the vessel would streamline operations and enhance Rainoil’s logistics chain. “We are pleased to welcome MT Princess Oge into Nigerian waters, and this reflects our continuous pursuit of operational excellence,” she added.
The reception ceremony was attended by top executives, including Group CFO Uche Umeh, Retail Executive Oge Ogbechie, and Trading Manager Larry Onwochei.
