Four talented young Muslims have been awarded brand new, fully furnished homes after emerging winners of a Qur’an recitation competition held in tribute to the late Abibatu Mogaji Tinubu, the mother of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.
The competition, which saw participation from more than 100 contestants drawn from across Kano State, was spearheaded by Senator Bashir Lado, Special Adviser to the President on Senate Affairs. The aim was to deepen engagement with the Holy Qur’an and encourage a lifelong commitment to its teachings among Nigerian youth.
Professor Ali Muhammad, deputy head of the organising team, described the event as both a spiritual exercise and a legacy project. “This is about inspiring young people to embrace Islamic values, strengthen their faith, and play constructive roles in society,” he said.
Winners were rewarded with either two- or three-bedroom houses, all equipped with parlours and modern furnishings. The first-place male and female winners each received three-bedroom homes, while the second-place contestants were given two-bedroom properties.
“This is not just about memorising scripture. It’s about fostering patriotic, spiritually grounded individuals who can help shape a better Nigeria,” Muhammad noted.
The winners were named as Maryam Abubakar Mu’az and Ahmad Shu’aib (first place), and Zainab Hassan Shu’aib and Ahmad Kabir Bature (second place).
The event drew significant attention from national figures, including former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Emir of Daura, and former Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika. In their remarks, they lauded President Tinubu’s ongoing reforms and expressed optimism for national peace and development.
Prayers were offered for continued unity and stability in the country.
