Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday held a closed-door meeting in Moscow with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, according to a report by Russian state news agency TASS, citing the Kremlin.
The meeting, which lasted approximately three hours, was also attended by Yuri Ushakov, Putin’s foreign policy adviser, as confirmed by official Kremlin photographs.
No immediate details were released regarding the content or outcome of the discussions.
The high-level meeting comes at a critical diplomatic moment, as U.S. President Donald Trump had earlier issued a 50-day ultimatum to Moscow in July to end the war in Ukraine—a deadline that has reportedly been shortened to this Friday.
President Trump has warned of a fresh wave of sanctions should Russia fail to comply, potentially extending penalties to nations that continue to import Russian oil and gas, including India.
Neither Washington nor Moscow has provided further comment on Wednesday’s meeting as of press time.
