President Bola Tinubu has sent a message of sympathy to Nigerian football star and Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi following the death of his father, Mr Sunday Ndidi.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Presidency, Mr Ndidi died in a road accident on Tuesday in Umunede, close to Agbor in Delta State.
Wilfred Ndidi, who plays his club football with Turkish giants Besiktas, was described by the President as having shared a close and meaningful relationship with his late father.
President Tinubu said he was deeply saddened by the loss, calling it a tragic event that had brought pain to the Ndidi family and their associates.
“I share in the sorrow of the family, friends and loved ones of Sunday Ndidi, particularly his son Wilfred, who regarded him as a mentor and guiding influence,” the President said.
He added that the late Mr Ndidi’s life, marked by humility and honesty, had positively influenced many within his community.
President Tinubu concluded by offering prayers for strength and comfort for the family during their time of mourning, and for the peaceful repose of the soul of the deceased.
