Pope Leo XIV has issued a powerful plea for peace in his final general audience before entering his summer retreat, highlighting the volatile situations unfolding in Iran, Israel, and Palestine.
Addressing a large crowd in St Peter’s Square on Wednesday, the Pope called for humility and dialogue over hostility and retaliation. “Let us reject arrogance and revenge, and instead resolutely choose the path of dialogue, diplomacy and peace,” he said.
The message comes at a time of growing concern over escalating conflicts in parts of the Middle East, where violence and diplomatic deadlock continue to dominate international headlines.
The Vatican confirmed that the Pope will spend the early part of July and mid-August at the papal summer residence in Castel Gandolfo, a tranquil retreat south of Rome. From there, he will deliver the Angelus prayer on three Sundays, a tradition that continues to draw large gatherings even during the summer period.
No further audiences—public or private—are planned for July, allowing the pontiff time for rest and reflection.
