Police Free Abducted Girl And Arrest 28 Suspects In Delta State Operations

Nigerian police have rescued a kidnapped teenager and arrested a suspect in Delta State, while also detaining 27 alleged robbers in a separate raid.

Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe said on Monday that the rescue followed an intelligence-led operation in Oza-Nogogo, near Agbor. Officers from the Agbor Police Division, supported by local vigilantes, stormed a residence where a 30-year-old man was found with a girl allegedly abducted on 11 September.

Investigators said the victim, who disappeared from her family home in Bodinga, Niger State, on 2 September, had been hypnotised and cut off from relatives after the suspect destroyed her phone SIM card. The man, originally from Sokoto State, is in custody as inquiries continue.

In a separate operation on 9 September, operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad, working with the Nigeria Hunters Forest Security Service, raided the Basket Market, a hotspot along the Asaba–Benin expressway. Twenty-seven suspects were arrested, with police recovering a locally-made shotgun and quantities of illicit drugs.

Edafe said the suspects had been using the location as a hideout to plan criminal activities. He added that detailed investigations are underway to establish their roles in recent robberies in the region.
