Plateau Governor Mutfwang Urges Military To Deal Firmly With Terrorists, Bandits

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has urged the Nigerian Armed Forces to treat terrorists and bandits as criminals and enemies of the land, calling for firm and decisive action against insecurity.

The governor made the call on Tuesday in Jos when the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Waidi Shuaibu, paid him a courtesy visit.

Mutfwang congratulated the army chief on his appointment and expressed confidence that his tenure would lead to a significant reduction in the country’s security challenges.

He said Plateau State had enjoyed relative peace in recent times and credited the improvement to increased military operations and leadership within the armed forces.

“There have been challenges, and there have been times when people questioned the level of insecurity, but your presence has given many communities the opportunity to sleep with their two eyes closed,” the governor said.

He emphasised that terrorism and banditry should not be trivialised, insisting that such acts constituted serious crimes against the state and must be treated accordingly.

The governor also praised the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Maj Gen Folunsho Oyinlola, for maintaining peace in the state during the festive period.

In response, the COAS commended the Plateau State Government for its developmental strides and assured residents of the army’s continued commitment to peace and security.

He said the security challenges facing the state could be overcome with collective effort and sustained cooperation.

The COAS added that his visit to Jos was part of an operational tour to assess activities of the 3 Division and engage with key stakeholders.
