The newly established Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) College of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Kaduna has been described as Nigeria’s “Harvard” of oil and gas.
The commendation came from Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) President, Festus Osifo, who led a delegation to the facility on Wednesday.
Osifo praised the institution for offering advanced postgraduate degrees and short-term professional programmes that meet global standards while remaining affordable through PTDF’s scholarship coverage. “Training 200 students locally is more cost-effective than sending 20 abroad,” he said.
PTDF Executive Secretary, Ahmed Galadima, said the 86-hectare campus was equipped with state-of-the-art academic blocks, a 500-seat conference hall, a digital library, and residential facilities. He disclosed that 45 candidates had been selected from over 2,000 PhD applications, while 250 would be admitted for master’s programmes out of 14,000 applicants.
He added that the college would begin its first PhD session in September 2025 and continue PTDF’s tradition of capacity building, which has trained more than 15,000 Nigerians over the past two decades.
