PDP Power Play: Wike’s Faction Demands Southern Presidential Ticket

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Nyesom Wike, Minister of the FCT, has urged the party to allocate its presidential ticket to the southern region ahead of the 2027 elections. This demand was articulated following a meeting in Abuja on Monday night, attended by former governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Okezie Ikpeazu, and Samuel Ortom.

Wike, speaking on behalf of the group, declared Samuel Anyanwu as the rightful national secretary of the PDP. “We firmly endorse Senator Anyanwu as the legitimately elected national secretary of our party,” he stated.

The PDP members stressed the necessity for the party to officially zone its presidential candidate to the south, emphasising that only Anyanwu has the authority to call meetings for the party’s key committees, rendering any notices issued by others illegitimate.

Insiders revealed that the meeting was held to impede the planned national convention on August 28, where new members of the National Working Committee would be elected. While Wike remains a PDP member, he is closely aligned with APC President Bola Tinubu, reportedly seeking to enhance Tinubu’s chances for re-election in 2027.
