PDP Moves To Unseat 4 Osun Lawmakers Who Defected To APC

Nigeria’s main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a legal battle to unseat four federal lawmakers from Osun State who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In applications filed at the Federal High Court, the PDP asked for the removal of Senators Francis Fadahunsi and Olubiyi Fadeyi, and Reps Omirin Olusanya and Taofeek Ajilesoro, accusing them of breaching the constitution by abandoning the party that sponsored their election.

The PDP wants the court to declare their seats vacant, stop payment of salaries and benefits, and order refunds of all entitlements received since their defection. It also seeks directives compelling Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and the electoral commission (INEC) to organise bye-elections in the affected constituencies.

The move follows similar action by the Osun PDP against Rep Oluwole Oke, who also switched to the APC. The suits are awaiting judicial assignment.
