Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has gained three new members in the federal parliament following the defection of three lawmakers from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The defectors — Abdulkarim Ahmed (Kaduna South), Aliyu Abdullahi (Ikara/Kubau), and Sadiq Abdullahi (Sabon Gari) — formally announced their move on Tuesday during a plenary session of the House of Representatives.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen read their letters to the chamber, stating that the lawmakers blamed internal rifts within the PDP for their decision. They also said they sought to work more closely with President Bola Tinubu in advancing his Renewed Hope policy agenda.
“The defectors pledged full commitment to supporting the President and promoting unity and sustainable development in Kaduna State under Governor Uba Sani,” Tajudeen told the House.
The defections are the latest in a series of political realignments across northern Nigeria as the PDP grapples with internal leadership disputes.
The Kaduna governor’s attendance at Tuesday’s session was seen as a symbolic endorsement of the move, underscoring the APC’s growing influence in the state ahead of future elections.
