Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says it is the only political organisation with the structure and public goodwill needed to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next presidential elections.
Addressing journalists in Abuja on Monday, PDP’s spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, stated that the party’s nationwide presence and grassroots network give it an edge in the 2027 electoral contest.
“The PDP is not just a party; it is part of Nigeria’s democratic fabric. We are in every community, from urban centres to remote villages,” he said.
Ologunagba argued that Nigerians, disillusioned with APC’s governance, are now eager for the PDP’s return.
“Privately, I receive calls from citizens urging us to put our house in order and return to rescue Nigeria,” he disclosed.
He dismissed speculation of internal division, stating that the PDP remains strong and united, despite high-profile defections.
“Defections don’t define us. Our base remains intact. The real strength of any party is in its people, not just its leadership,” Ologunagba added.
Criticising the APC’s record, he labelled the ruling party a “bad market”, claiming it has failed to deliver on its promises.
“No responsible Nigerian will vote for the APC again, regardless of who carries the party’s presidential flag,” he declared.
He further confirmed that the PDP will convene its 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting from July 23 to 25, where party leaders will review preparations by the zoning and convention committees.
The gathering will also ratify recent state congresses and address organisational matters ahead of 2027.
